Use These Checklists to Make Simple Eco-Friendly Changes in Your Home

Homeowners are just now realizing the significant impact of any misused item on our environment. Self-conscious homeowners are trying their best to make their homes as eco-friendly as possible to reduce their carbon footprint on the world.

Several eco-friendly solutions will be beneficial and practical additions to your home. Not only can you make some changes to your lifestyle to help avoid climate change, but you will also find these changes refreshing and comfortable.

You will improve your property maintenance by starting out small and making simple and convenient home additions. Here is a checklist to make simple eco-friendly changes in your home.

1.   Install Solar Panels

Solar panels have become quite popular for a reason. They are a way to help the environment while simultaneously reducing energy bills. You will reduce your carbon footprint and save a lot of money at once.

Although installing solar panels at first might be expensive, they are the investment that will let you save up. Ultimately, you will have saved up more than you initially spent.

Solar power sources are available in any country, even the less sunny ones. You might think that it’s impossible to get energy from sunlight if you live in a cloudy area, but it turns out that solar power is more popular in England than in Spain, and that says a lot!

2.   Use Bamboo Products

There are many ways that you can use bamboo products. There are cosmetics, clothes, paper, sanitary products, flooring, blinds, etc.

Bamboo products are eco-friendly and sustainable additions to your home. They are biodegradable, earth-friendly, and recyclable. Therefore, they will be a great convenience for you. You can purchase bamboo straws and bamboo toothbrushes for your home.

This way not only will you be using sustainable and low-maintenance products while saving the environment, but you will also be taking care of your and your family’s health. To be frank, bamboo products are a great advantage because they are:

  • Anti-bacterial
  • Odor resistant
  • Anti-fungal
  • Hardwearing
  • Produces 35% more oxygen than similar plants
  • 100 percent biodegradable
  • Regrows to its adult plant size in 3 to 5 years
  • Helps rebuild eroded soil
  • Requires far less water than similar plants (e.g., cotton)

3.   Save Water with a Low-Flow Showerhead

You might love standing under hot flowing water. It’s relaxing and enjoyable and showers are more likely to save water than baths. However, when you take long showers and use powerful shower heads you waste a lot of water.

There is a way to keep your favorite way of bathing while also saving a lot of water. If you use low-flow showerheads, you can stand under the water for as long as you did before while saving much more water than before.

4.   Insulate your home properly

Insulating your home properly is one of the major steps to take toward creating an eco-friendly environment.  A well-insulated home will keep the heat instead of wasting it.

Quite often, heaters would reheat your living spaces and waste a lot of energy when there is no need. However, when your home is well-insulated, house heating takes less energy and only reheat the home when necessary.

You can achieve this goal by isolating your home using thick curtains instead of blinds. Although blinds may seem a better design choice for certain rooms, it’s better to use thick but stylish curtains that will keep your home pleasantly cool in summer and warm in winter without wasting a lot of energy on heating.

5.   Install Underfloor Heating

Speaking of heating, underfloor heating is the perfect choice for your comfort and for the environment.

Firstly, underfloor heating is much more efficient than any other form as every room will reach a pleasant temperature. If you have kids, you wouldn’t have to worry about them sneaking around barefoot as with underfloor heating, they will not catch a cold.

As for the environmental benefits, underfloor heating is a minimalist way of approaching the subject, and it allows you to save a lot of energy and money, in contrast to radiators.

6.   Install Bamboo Flooring

We already went over the benefits of using bamboo products. In addition, you could install bamboo flooring in your home. You could avoid allergies, maintenance problems, and health issues by installing bamboo flooring at home.

7.   Think About Windows

You have no idea how much it relies on windows when it comes to environmental benefits. You might think that double-glazed windows are unattractive and lower the value of your home, but those days are over. Today you can find efficient and beautiful double-glazed windows for your home to save energy.

Moreover, UPVC surrounds most windows. You can avoid pollution and toxic compounds by using wooden frames for your windows. You will find wooden windows to be a very beautiful and attractive design choice as well as an eco-friendly option!
