The perfect pair of sunglasses pair functionality with style and can go a long way in ramping up the style quotient of your outfit and even compliment your face shape. But of course, to find that one pair (or five) of sunglasses you’ve been looking for, you need to be up to date on what styles are going to be the center of attention this year.
That’s why we’ve put together all the eyewear trends people love this year. And if you’re an eco-friendly shopper like us, don’t worry about having to sacrifice your style for the environment. There are great Australian brands with eco sunglasses that keep up with the trends.
This year we’re seeing many past trends stealing the spotlight, and we thought we’d welcome them first by reserving the top of the list for them.
Aviators
Although aviators have an interesting history that didn’t start with fashion, the shape and design of these frames won the hearts of men (and women from the ’70s onwards) and have held a special place in eyewear trends ever since. And they are certainly not about to go out of fashion now.
But if you’re tired of the aviators that you’ve owned for a couple of years now, you could always turn things up a notch and try a different shape or go for tinted lenses. There are many brands out there giving the classic design their modern twist that we didn’t know we needed to see. You could even try out a pair with acetate frames tinted in bright, fun colours. A special note for our eco-friendly shoppers: some eco-friendly Australian eyewear brands use a plant-based bio-acetate to make their eco sunglasses, so make sure to look out for them!
Oversized frames
You can never go wrong with these – going big is always a good choice. Once again, a trend that began sometime between the late ’60s and early ’70s is back again, and wearing them is still sure to make heads turn. You could choose to go with rich brown and black tones for a more luxurious look or pick even pastel-colored frames that perfectly match the essence of spring.
Round frames
We love revisiting the past with our fashion; aviators, oversized frames, and now the round frames. But who can blame us? A small, thinner round frame works great for a vintage touch to your look, but you always have the option to go bold with thick frames and colors that stand out. And you could always go the tinted lens route with these frames, too!
Rectangle Frames
There’s no way we could leave these out of our list! Even if you’ve stayed cooped up at home and didn’t find time before to read up on fashion trends, you still probably knew that these rectangle frames were in. Rectangular frames have become celebrity favourites, and you’re bound to spot them while scrolling through your Instagram. And we understand the appeal – the understated shape gives you room to be bolder with colour, making them a fun addition to your look.
Let’s not forget the lenses!
Frames are great, but tinted lenses are another sure-fire way to give your aesthetic a quick upgrade and do it well. No matter what colour you decide to go with, it’s sure to give your look more character.
