The Process Of Manufacturing Uggs – Decoded

The fashion business never fails to stun people with its innovative products. Many young women and men are striving hard to be known in this creative industry. Everyday astounding products are being launched in the market by various brands. Here, we will look through one of the most sought-after and desirable accessories, namely Uggs.

Uggs are boots that came into existence in the 1980s in and around Australia. These boots are made of sheepskin and styled during the winter season to regulate warmth in the body. There are Ugg for men, women and also in unisex variations.

MANUFACTURING PROCESS :

Uggs are of high quality as the raw materials employed to manufacture uggs are twin-faced sheepskin or woven sheepskin, synthetic or rubber sole. Sometimes, a leather outer surface is used. This sheepskin delivers a soft, fluffy, and cosy feeling to the feet. Uggs have been one among the must-buy lists and sensational pieces during the early 90s. They manufacture not only boots but also other footwear like slippers.

THE WOOL – Firstly, the sheep are fed well. A sheep’s intake is about 77,000 grams per day. It induces the growth of merino wool. Once the sheep hit their optimum age, the wool is extracted from them. The wool is detached and dissolved in litres of saltwater which eliminates all the dirt, debris and cleanses it.

FLESHING – Even after cleansing in saltwater, there will be residues in the wool. Fleshing is processed in a machine to acquire accuracy and standard. It increases the wool’s penetration capacity or permeability, which will be treated with several chemical components to achieve desired results.

SCOURING – In this procedure, the wool is refined from grease and dirt remains by ministering it at high temperatures using surfactants. Generally, the compounds alcohol sulfonates, alcohol ethereal sulfonates, linear benzene sulfonated, and alkali are engaged in this process.

PICKLING – It is a 16-hour operation where the wool after scouring is positioned in salt and acid solutions. The salts in the solution prevent the swelling of wool caused due to the acid components existing in the solution.

TANNING – In this process, the wool is protected from deteriorating or rotting. It is dealt with chromium salts and bicarbonate, wherein the bicarbonate regulates and maintains the pH, and chromium salts restrict the degeneration of wool.

DYEING – The dye for the wool is mixed with emulsified oil and fat-liquor to attain flexibility and look. After the application, the dye is dried with forced air. Then it is dry cleaned with perchloroethylene to remove any grease, dirt, or any wet substances. It takes about 4 – 32 hours for drying the wool after dyeing.

SOLE – Uggs for men and women used rubber soles during earlier days. As rubber has been over-utilized, another alternative has been employed to facilitate eco-friendly soles for uggs. Ethylene-vinyl acetate is engaged in making soles that are soft, flexible, and affordable. Many shoe businesses prefer EVA as it is durable.

BINDING AND STITCHING – The perfectly prepared suede is now designed as uggs for men or women as boots, slippers, etc. Layers of cotton are also added to enhance the uggs’ look. After designing, the soles are fixed to the suede. Then it is verified, packed, and delivered to the markets.

Ugg for men was first launched and received a substantial positive welcome in the market. In earlier days, farmers and surfers used uggs predominantly. Ugg for men is available with minimal modifications in varied categories like slippers, premium uggs, classic, premium classic, mini, and so on.
