Why bidets are essential for our health and the planet

In some countries around the world, bidets have been in use for centuries. They are a much better alternative for keeping ourselves clean and healthy rather than using expensive, bleached as well as environmentally-damaging toilet paper. However, people are not yet fully aware of the multiple benefits of having a bidet in your bathroom brings. It’s not only essential for our health, but also for the environment as it is an eco-friendlier option. The first advantage of using a bidet is better personal hygiene as well as skincare. They are also practical as they can prevent clogs and other plumbing issues in your home. As for eco-friendliness, bidets save water and reduce household waste, which are two essential aspects of modern society. If you wish to improve your hygiene and make a positive impact on the planet, read about some eco-friendly tips to green your bathroom – switching to a bidet is one of them.

  1. 1.   Bidets are better for maintaining personal hygiene

By using regular, dry toilet paper, you’re unable to clean yourself properly after using the toilet as some residue is bound to remain on your skin. That’s why the best solution that enables you to clean yourself thoroughly involves installing a bidet in your bathroom. Bidets come with water spraying features, which help you clean yourself with warm water. You can adjust the strength and the temperature of the water stream and even heat the seat. They usually come with plenty of handy features that exist to kick your hygiene up a notch and to make your visit to the bathroom more comfortable.

  • 2.   They provide better skincare

As already mentioned, dry toilet paper not only fails in removing residue from your bottom, but it can also be irritating for your skin. For people who have some skin issues or other health conditions, installing affordable bidets in the bathroom can be the solution as it is soothing rather than irritating. Also, it helps you stay as clean as possible, which only makes you feel comfortable in your skin. Certain health conditions such as hemorrhoids or fissures can cause severe pain when using toilet paper after going to the toilet. In these cases especially, a bidet can be the best solution. Different water options included in a bidet can help you clean yourself gently and with no further irritation and inflammation.

  • 3.   They prevent clogs from happening

With a few members of a household all using toilet paper for wiping, different plumbing issues, as well as clogs, can happen. And when such an issue occurs, it can be tedious and costly. Bidets pose no such threat. When you switch to a bidet, a staggering 75% less toilet paper is used in your household. And also, if you switched to air drying your hands, you would end up using 0% of toilet paper. Imagine what this trend could do for our damaged and suffering planet!

  • 4.   Bidets save water

By some calculations, an average American person uses approximately 57 sheets of toilet paper each day, which comes to 3 million rolls of toilet paper only in the USA for what we need to cut down 57 million trees. Moreover, the process of producing toilet paper itself uses large quantities of water. For example, to produce the aforementioned 57 sheets of toilet paper, we need 3.7 gallons of water. And we also have the costs of transportation and packaging, which adds up to a lot of trees, money and unnecessary waste. Moreover, toilet paper needs to be bleached, which is a highly harmful process both for humans and animals as it has some cancer-causing substances. As bidets severely reduce the use and hence the production of toilet paper, it is by far the eco-friendliest option out there.

  • 5.   They also reduce household waste

We can conclude from the previous paragraph that as we reduce the production of toilet paper, consequently we also reduce the consumption and thus reduce waste that we create. Even though you may still use a small amount of toilet paper to wipe yourself after using a bidet, it’s considerably less than it is without using a bidet.

Overall, using a bidet has plenty of benefits that are related to our health and environment – both crucial aspects of our life.
