We all (hopefully) want to live a little more sustainably, but that sounds a lot like hard work.
BUT it doesn’t have to be! There are a lot of simple switches you can make to create a more sustainable home.
From ditching sponges to Eco-Friendly Bamboo Toilet Paper, give some of these a try and start feeling better about your shrinking impact on the planet.
Use natural ingredients
When facing a stain or a surface clean, take a look in your kitchen cupboards or fridge. There is a plethora of natural ingredients you can use to help keep your home sustainably clean.
Lemons can be used, often alongside baking powder/soda, to scour the bottom of your pots and pans and to clean stains from containers.
You can also use cut lemons to sanitise surfaces like chopping boards as they also have antibacterial and antiseptic qualities – plus, they smell super fresh.
You can squeeze a lot out of these citrus sensations, and whatever’s left can go straight into your compost bin – meaning there’s little to no waste and little cost.
Switch to bamboo toilet roll
It takes a lot of trees to make bog-standard essentials like toilet tissue. Sadly, this is causing mass deforestation and climate change acceleration.
One of the simplest sustainable switches you can make is using eco-friendly bamboo toilet paper. Bamboo grows super-fast and there’s an abundance of it, so it has much less of an effect on the planet.
Bamboo toilet paper also tends to be better for sensitive skin too. Don’t worry, it’s not the kind that pandas like to munch on.
Use eco-friendly light bulbs
Eco-friendly LED light bulbs are good for the environment because they use much less energy to run. Not only that, but they’re also much more durable than traditional bulbs.
Efficiency is increased by between 25% and 80% compared incandescent lights, and on average, you can save £70 a year by making the switch.
It might not seem a lot to you, but the planet will love you for it!
Plastic-Free bathroom
Chances are that your bathroom is filled with plastic. Shampoo, showel gel, soap, it’s probably all plastic.
Ocean ruining, turtle hurting, beach destroying, pesky plastic.
Make the switch to brands that offer plastic-free toiletries – shampoo bars and soap bars are also a great sustainable switch.
Alternatively, if you’re lucky enough to have one nearby, you could use an old (clean) jar or container and fill them up at your local zero-waste refill shop.
And there you have it. Not so hard, right?
Just a few small changes can have a huge impact on our planet. It might not seem a lot, but if everyone got involved, we could make the world a much cleaner, greener place.
