4 Must-Have Items For Your Staple Wardrobe: Just As Popular Now As Decades Ago!

A staple wardrobe is all about getting a collection of clothes that will last for years, never go out of style and contain pieces that you can easily style with one another. You can reduce waste, wear and keep better quality clothes and overall just improve your wardrobe from all perspectives! It can be hard to know what is going to stay in style and what is a trend sometimes, so we’re here with four absolute must-have items in your staple wardrobe that have already been popular for decades, so we know they’re here to stay. Sustainable shopping is on the rise, and for good reason, so invest in these pieces and enjoy them for years to come!

Straight Cut Jeans

First up, you can’t go wrong with a pair of straight cut jeans. Jean styles come and go, from flares to wide leg and skinny styles, but something that has always been there consistently is the straight cut style. A good quality pair of jeans can last you for decades, so this is absolutely something worth investing in, particularly from a well renowned company like Levi’s that are known for their quality. Something like a pair of Levi’s Original 501 are ideal. You could either choose a black pair of jeans or classic blue denim. We’d avoid something like ripped jeans or an open hem too, as this can reduce the lifespan of your jeans.

A Little Black Dress

When it comes to going out outfits, trends are massive, with many people buying a new outfit for every occasion based on what’s popular at the time. However, the sustainability around these items is extremely questionable and the fast fashion industry is really harmful as we know. So much waste is created and the working conditions are renowned for being appalling. Fast fashion is massively driven by the going out industry, so rather than buying into it, instead why not invest in a great piece that you’ll wear and love for years? Something like little black dresses can be dressed up or down for any occasion, and when you choose a classic style, like a bodycon midi dress, you know it’ll never go out of style. You feel so much better and more confident wearing good quality clothing, so we’re a big fan of less is more when it comes to how many outfits you have for going out.

A Trench Coat

Next up we’re moving onto coats, and the trench coat is absolutely timeless. Whilst the trench coats have a history as dress for soldiers, they gained popularity for civilians in the 1920’s and 1930’s. A calf length, slightly oversized, beige trench coat has remained extremely popular since, with many people having one in their wardrobe. They’re ideal as you can add them to any outfit and immediately elevate it to a whole new level.

One of the most iconic designers of the trench coat is Burberry, who initially reimagined the trench coat back in 1879 with a new innovative material that was more chic and comfortable, and became particularly popular in the 30’s. Worn by movie stars, royalty and everyone in between, trench coats have stood the test of time and there are no signs of that changing. Moving into 2024, a Burberry trench coat could set you back £2,000, however there are so many fantastic quality, sustainably made versions that you will wear and love for years. Invest in a trench coat for your staple wardrobe and you’ll wear it for decades.

A Well Tailored White Shirt

Last but not least, we have a well-tailored white shirt. Dress it down with jeans and trainers and a brown belt for a casual weekend brunch look, go smart for work by pairing it with trousers or a pencil skirt or dress it up with your favourite mini skirt and heels for a timeless and effortlessly classy look. A shirt that fits incredibly well and is made from sustainable, good-quality materials, is such a great investment for your wardrobe.
